We saw many businesses shutting down during national lockdown as they were negatively affected by Covid-19, but the truth is some were built during lockdown.
The 24-year-old Bokang Lehloenya is one of the people who started her business during these tough times.
The Welkom-born told Kasi Voice News that she founded Seqhaqhabola Porridge and the company started to operate in March.
“Seqhaqhabola Porridge is a company that produces a delightful porridge, “motoho wa sebele”,” she said.
Whilst other students use NSFAS money to impress their peers, the Central University of Technology student told Kasi Voice News that she used the money to start her business.
Bokang further told us the story behind making Seqhaqhabola.
“The taste of Seqhaqhabola was hard to master because I emphasized on giving it a natural taste,” she said.
The entrepreneur mentioned that people losing jobs due to Covid-19 inspired her to start a business and to be able to create jobs for herself and the youth of South Africa.
“The impact of Russian Ukraine war also inspired me to start my business since the war affected us as the country and the oil and fuel prices went up rapidly,” she added.
Bokang dreams to see her product bring in South African retailers and be bought by masses.
Her main challenge is transportation since she sometimes struggle to carry her products because they are heavy.
Bokang sees herself as a successful young entrepreneur one day, running a successful manufacturing company and creating more job opportunities to unemployment youth.
