Caught in the act: Cops bust illegal immigrants in Mangaung

The Free State police has joined forces to minimize crime focusing more on undocumented immigrants who reside in illegal deteriorated properties.

According the police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, the Operation Shenela was formed by various forces such as the Deputy Minister Home Affairs, NjabuloNzuza, Premier of the Free State Province, Mxolosi Dukwana, MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Letshaha Mathea and the Provicial Commissioner of the Police in the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.

The commander and the Chairperson of the Provjoints, the Provincial Commissioner addressed the multidisciplinary parade after a briefing to the principals which was led by the District Commissioner, Major General AP Adams and Dr Donald Joseph, Head of Home Affairs in the province.

On Monday, February 19, 32 suspects were arrested for illegal immigration through multi-disciplinary in Mangaung, Bloemfontein.

One of the suspects was found in possession of dagga, the second one was nabbed for consumer Protection Act Fine, and the third one was found with illegal cigarettes.

A television that was reported lost was found and four pairs of handcuffs was found from one of the buildings.

“At about 14:00 in the the afternoon, members followed intelligence led information to the back of grocery store in Grobler Street and found Illicit liquor and cigarettes,” says Kareli.

“Further information and search led members to discovered a batch of drugs such as Crystal meth, Mandrax, nyaope and rock, worth an estimated R140 000.A foreign national couple was arrested for dealing with drugs, possessions of illegal liquor and cigarettes. One illegal immigrant was found near the shop,” added Kareli.
