Welkom K9 Unit receives tip-off about a foreigner dealing drugs on Wednesday, 29 September 2021, in Odendaalsrus.
K9 Unit team acted on information received from a concerned Odendaalsrus resident. They conducted an observation until a blue BMW was spotted. This vehicle was believed to be involved in the crime reported.
The vehicle was stopped that morning and a search request was made. During the search, 315 cellphones and 15 tablets were found. Cameroon man (40) could not provide proper documentation for being in possession of this large quantity of gadgets.
A preliminary investigation was conducted and revealed the items were cargoed from Korea and smuggled through Lesotho. They were then transported with a truck to Odendaalsrus.
The suspect has a passport, but not to be a businessman in South Africa.
SARS officials have been informed and a follow up on the incident will be done on Thursday, 30 September 2021.
The suspect will appear before Odendaalsrus Magistrates Court on Friday, 01 October 2021. He will face charges of possession of suspected stolen items.
Since these items were smuggled into the country, additional charges can be added against the suspect.
