Body of drowned QwaQwa boy (10) found trapped in Kgopjane river

The body of a 10-year-old boy from QwaQwa has finally been found in Kgopjane river after the lad went missing, authorities said

The 10-year-old’s body was found trapped between the branches of a tree by the rescue team following a sting search operation at Kgopjane river in Bolata Village where he allegedly slipped and drowned in the river.

When the tragedy occurred, the boys were allegedly heading to Makong Village from Matebeleng Village.

In a joint effort with Maluti-a-Phofung Fire department, the police’s rescue team and diving team put an end to the family’s worries after discovering the body of the missing boy from Matebeleng Village after his disappearance into the river on Thursday, December 15 at 20:50 while crossing the Kgopjane river.

According to a released statement by the police in Free State, in the early afternoon of Friday, December 16, at approximately 12:45, police rescue crews and fire fighters were informed that a boy was missing.

“The search was initiated along the adjacent Mphokojane River, but the friends he walked with told them they had crossed the Kgopjane river instead,” read a statement.

An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation.
