An inquest docket is under investigation by Viljoensdrif SAPS police after finding a body of a black man in Vaal River behind Richmond Village, Viljoensdrif, on Thursday, 16 September 2021.
A fisherman called the police to the river.
It is alleged he smelled something foul and investigated. He discovered a floating body and called the police. Other roleplayers certified the man dead after removing him from the river by Bloemfontein SAPS Divers.
The deceased is an unknown adult male, and approximately 35 years old; 1,75m in height and weighing about 75kg. He had a top gold tooth and dressed in a blue and white T-shirt; and blue pair of jeans.
His corpse had already decomposed, and estimated to have been about 14-20 days in the water.
Police opened an inquest for investigation as no foul play is suspected at this stage.
Investigating Officer, Detective Warrant Officer Johan Du Toit requests community members to assist in tracing the deceased’s next of kin to help identifying him.
