4 people killed in horror crash outside Viljoenskroon

Four people were killed this morning in a horrific car crash on the R59 road outside Viljoenskroon in Free State.

Police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli said the rescue team were confronted with carnage when they arrived at the scene.

It is believed that a kombi carrying passengers collided with a light motor vehicle during early hours of the morning at around 01:45.

Kareli said the Viljoenskroon police were called to the scene and upon arrival, the police found two vehicles a silver VW Polo and a 22 seater Mercedez benz kombi in a terrible state following the crash. 

“It is alleged that the combi was from Viljoenskroon side heading towards Bothaville and the Polo was from Bothaville travelling towards Viljoenskroon when the two vehicle collided head-on,” says Kareli.

“Two females died from the kombi and two more also died from the Polo while at the scene,” detailed Kareli.

All other victims who sustained injuries are receiving medical attention at various hospitals.

The police are currently doing investigations pertaining the the cause of the accident.
