The King Richard star Will Smith has apologized to the Academy and other nominees for smacking the host of the day, Chris Rock.
This follows after the US comedian made joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith comparing him to Demi Moore’s character of 1997 film.
Smith slapped Rock in the face on stage at the Oscars after the comic made a joke about the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Jada, I love you, I can’t wait for GI Jane 2,” said the comedian.
“Jada Smith shaved her hair because of the condition known as alopecia,” he said.
Sending his apologies, Smith said that he is well aware of how his reaction has triggered emotions, and that he ask for forgiveness for his actions.
“I want to apologise to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees.
“This is a beautiful moment and I am not crying for winning an award. Its not about winning an award for me. Art imitates life.
But I look like the crazy father, just like Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things,” said Smith after winning the Oscar award.
