The journey from prisoner to author and man of God

Elijah Skosana is an author who turned his life around during his difficult times in jail.

Having a difficult upbringing resulted in Skosana being prone to anger. Experiencing a string of negative experiences with his father left him wondering if he really was his biological father.

According to Skosana his father used to kick him out and he would find himself sleeping in shabby places like the neighbour’s restrooms and in the bushes. He struggled to understand why his own father would do that and he also referred to him as a child of a witch, a word which ruffled his feathers.

As a result of his father’s ill treatment he sought the truth about who his biological father is however his mother maintained that his stepfather is actually his biological father but Skosana didn’t believe that.

He failed to fathom why a man who brought him into this would treat him so bad. He decided to go on an interrogation mission to get to the bottom of the truth.

“I never believed what she said to me, I went further seeking information by interrogating my late uncle about my biological father. My uncle told me that my dad was burnt by comrades during the apartheid times. Hearing what my uncle told me my life became more meaningless and gloomier. I told myself that my birth was an accident and that I was born to suffer. It was not easy to handle the pain and the life my step dad created for me’’. said Skosana.

His uncle’s confirmation made him have a deep void inside him and he had to find something to fill it. He ended up filling it with cigarette, drugs and alcohol just so that he could avoid feeling what he was feeling.

He was filled with rage and he was in a mission to get revenge from his step father and anyone who had hurt him in the past. He decided to get a gun to fulfil his revengeful desire.

Skosana reiterated that on the 6 June 2004 he was falsely accused of robbery and murder. On the 11 August 2005 he was wrongfully sentenced to 35 years in prison. That arrest made him even more angry and all he wanted was revenge.

He told himself he will go on a killing spree as soon as he was released from prison, he was on a mission to start with those who imprisoned him wrongfully then the rest would follow.

Skosana told Kasi Voice News that little did he know that his worst nightmare would lead to his purpose. He envisioned prison as a final straw but it turned out to be a blessing because that is where his baby was born.

His debut book titled “From Prison to true destination of purpose”. In the book the author narrates about his real-life experiences.

He delves into the power and influence of forgiveness to those he believes wronged him.

He explains why forgiveness is so powerful and how it led him to the person he is today, a child of God who does not seek revenge anymore. Readers can gain a deeper understanding of his prison life by reading about the discomfort he endured while incarcerated.

According to the author he thought prison was an end of his life, only to find that God had a masterplan about his change of heart and what path he was destined to travel.

Skosana only served 13 years of his sentence. During that period he became a better man, a man after God’s heart and he also managed to pen down two books.

His second book is titled “Pick yourself up and go back to the game of life” in the book he discusses how to bounce back from adversity.

Skosana encourages readers to reconnect with their true selves. It is about introspection and fixing whatever needs to be fixed for a better future.

It is crucial for people to know who they are before they can pick themselves up to resume living their lives. Something which the author did before he became the man he is today.

According to Skosana If the ingredient of knowing yourself is missing in your recipe, it will be difficult for you to cultivate a good character. So, he highlights the importance of knowing one’s identity.

Skosana is now a Man of God whose mission is to win souls for God and to also make an impact in the lives of prisoners.
