Seema Mahlogonolo Mabotha is a wordsmith who has penned down three books in a short space of time and has been featured in an anthology.
The 23-year-old is a native of Botlokwa, north of Polokwane, he was brought up in Tembisa and later moved to Jane Furse Glen Cowie in 2014 for his secondary education.
His passion for writing surfaced when he was in Grade 5, he had a knack of writing on pieces of paper, his zeal for writing grew and people started recognizing it and even applauding him for it.
As a result of his persistent writing, he managed to pen down three books. In March 2021 he made a name for himself and published his debut book titled “I find peace in my writing part 1”.
The book is a motivational poetic composition about life’s challenges especially in the lives of the youth.
In July 2021, he published his second book which is a continuation of the first book, ‘I find peace in my writing part 2‘, its emphasis is more on the events that transpired during the unprecedented times of COVID-19.
He decided to motivate others through poetry as he entailed that he used to stay alone, which prompted the first two books.
In part one, the author shares more personal experiences, and in part two, he discusses life in general.
In 2022 Seema’s poems were featured in an anthology compiled by Mr Ramolefo M.S titled ‘Khalemo’ .
In the book, the youth take centre stage regarding teenage pregnancies, peer pressure, as well as being encouraged about life in general. The elders of the world are also provided with some insight and encouragement.
The passionate word slinger published his third book titled ‘The journey of being gay‘ in March 2023. In the book, The author raises awareness about the bad things homosexuals endure, such as being killed, raped, and bullied without justice being served.
He reiterated that homosexual people do not live free in South Africa, as they are mainly attacked for their sexual preference, “they don’t classify hem as normal being as their preference differs from what is deemed normal,” says Mabotha.
Mabotha also added that “these [perpetrators] don’t realize that their actions pose danger to society.”
Seema says he does not identify as gay but during the book research process, it dawned on him that coming out can be a difficult experience for both the individual and his parents.
According to him, in order to build a peaceful and safe south Africa, the people who are against homosexuals must cease their hatred and start loving them as their own brothers and sisters.
The author furthermore that there is no easy way to self-publish, you will encounter publishers who are only interested in making money from your work. Furthermore, they may rush to publish your errors without correcting them.
Seema is currently studying at Rostec Technical FET College doing a Marketing Management course. When asked how he manages to study and write books simultaneously, he said he’s good at multitasking.
“I maintain a good balance as I am good at multitasking, so it has become easy for me to write books and study almost all the time”. said Seema.
Seema gets inspiration from within, by encouraging himself to do better each day. In addition, he has drawn inspiration from a teacher who became a father figure to him, Vusi Jabulani Mathebula.
The passionate writer is excited about his progress at such an early age. A major achievement for him was writing and publishing his first book, which was mentioned in numerous publications, radio stations and newspapers.
When asked what message he can give to young people about following their dreams, he said despite the lack of support, they need to invest in their dreams, because in due course they will reap the rewards.
“If there is one message I can give young people, it is for them to be themselves, regardless of whether they have support or not. They must invest their time in what they believe and surely everything will fall into place. It takes dedication and determination to achieve what you believe in,” said Seema.
Over the next five years, the author wishes to achieve many things, including academically. He also hopes that his third book will transform people’s lives and their mindsets.
