Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) intervened in Bothaville service delivery protest on Thursday, 21 October 2021.
The intervention came after EFF members blocked R30 road with a vehicle, burning trees and a well as tyres. There were several known EFF leaders and about 300 supporters thereof.
Upon the police’s arrival, they instructed protesters to remove the vehicle from the public road but they refused.
One leader ordered, with a microphone, for supporters to remove the vehicle and back-off from the busy public road. They dispersed peacefully, with no injuries, but headed towards Nala Municipality offices.

Protesters wanted to walk to Sedibeng Water premises but were warned by POP members not to. They listened and dispersed.
Police arrested a 25-year-old man for public violence. He will soon appear before Bothaville Magistrate’s Court.
Members of Welkom POP are still monitoring the situation.
