A Puthaditjhaba man has been found guilty of raping a then 21-year-old victim in December 2021, and was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.
Police spokesperson in the region, Mmako Mophiring says the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
“On 15 December 2021 the victim (25) was walking in Boiketlong Village with her friends and the accused.
Her friend left her with the accused, who told her how much he loved her. He started assaulting and dragging the victim to the nearby church toilet, where he raped her,” Mophiring said.
Mophiring further said, the victim managed to flee, but the accused chased after her until he caught up with her and pulled her to a certain house, where he raped her again.
“The victim reported the matter to her father, who then took her to police station to open a case,” added Mophiring.
The Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court found the accused guilty of the charges and the rapist was sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment.
