Bloemspruit man aged 52, to serve 20 years behind bars for rape ordeal!

A 52-year-old father who was found guilty of raping a 14 year-old girl – who was a friend of the accused’s daughter was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to Mangaung police spokesperson Thabo Covani, on Tuesday, 1 November 2022, the case of rape was reported by the social worker who was responsible for the victim’s case in Bloemspruit police station since she was under foster care.

“This happened after the victim’s failure to attend school, which led to teachers doing follow up about the victim’s whereabouts and why she was absent from school,’ says Covani.

Covani reported that the 52-year-old man impregnated the young lass, aged 14-years-old.

“The teachers discovered that the victim had been raped by her friend’s father on 10 August 2022 and as the result, she was two months pregnant.The victim’s ordeal was then reported properly” says Covani.

Following the investigation, the accused was arrested by the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit, with Detective Sergeant Katleho Pheko assigned to investigate the case further.

“Thanks to Sergeant Pheko’s unending efforts put into the case for over a year. On 8 February 2023 the accused was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court.

His name will be recorded in the National Register for Sexuaul Offenders, added Covani”.
