Fannie Masemola is new national police commissioner: 3 things you need to know about him

Fannie Masemola has been ascended to the national police commissioner position, after he was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday.

Ramaphosa said Masemola’s appointment will ensure continuity in the most senior position in the police service.

His appointment comes after Khehla’s Sitole was booted out from the office last month.

The incoming National Commissioner who will lead the men and women in blue from the start of April.

Deputy Police Commissioner:

General Masemola has been a Deputy Police Commissioner with an outstanding record of achievements in policing across South Africa. This includes helping with the de-escalation of violence in KwaZulu-Natal.

Holding top seats at provincial and national structures:

Masemola is an experienced professional police officer who has served in the ranks in various leadership and management capacities – at both provincial and national level.

Played significant role during hard lockdown restriction to ensure safety:

Masemola served the country, most recently, in the country’s security response to Covid-19 and lockdown, where he ensured all protocols are followed and there’s no lawlessness.
