The Sasolburg Regional Court has handed down a hefty judgment on the embattled Ndobela Attorneys’ Meshack Mfana (51) after he was ordered to repay the client’s money he allegedly pocketed.
The 51-year-old appeared before the Regional Court yesterday, 30 March, where he was found guilty as charged for theft.
According to Hawks spokesperson in the province, captain Christopher Singo, the accused’s conviction originates from six years ago, in January 2016, where the Mfana, instituted a civil claim against the state for unlawful arrest of his client.
“The state then paid the amount of R60 000 to the trust account of Ndobela Attorney and the client never received the money,” says Singo.
:The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein.
Mfana was issued with summons in June 2019, and he appeared in court on several occasions culminating in his recent conviction,” he adds.
Handing down the judgement, the court ordered Mfana to pay back the amount of R41 000 within the period of ninety (90) days.
He was also sentenced to three years direct imprisonment wholly suspended for five years, “On condition that he does not commit a similar offence during the period of suspension,” concludes Singo.
