Firearm stolen in Joburg, recovered in Bronville

The Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) Reaction Team, along with Thabong Crime Intelligence recovered a firearm in Hani Park, Bronville, on Tuesday, 29 March, after receiving a tip-off.

According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, the teams visited the identified address and found no one at the premises. After asking neighbours about the shack’s owner, the neighbours took the police to the owner’s parents residence.

Upon arrival and questioning the suspect’s parents, the parents told the police they last saw their son in August 2021. However, the police requested the mother to accompany them to her son’s shack.

When they arrived, the teams searched the premises and found a Truvelo riffle hidden behind a ceiling not fitted on the roof.

The firearm circulated and reported stolen at Muldersdrift, Krugersdorp, Gauteng Province in a house robbery. Cash amounting to R100 000, jewellery and two firearms were also stolen at the robbery. Suspects fled the scene with the victim’s Mercedez Benz E250. The four suspects left the victims tied up and assaulted the woman during the incident.
