62-year-old Maphello Merriam Shai vanishes from her home

The Thabong police have registered a missing person’s file after a woman’s daughter reported her mother missing on Sunday, 10 April.

According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, the missing woman was last seen on Friday, 08 April, when she left home without stating where she was going.

“The daughter said the family thought she was just visiting around the neighbourhood as usual,” added Thakeng.

At around 23:00, the woman was still not home, which raised suspicions as it was past her usual time of 22:00. Following this suspicious occurrence, the family went to look for her at her drinking spot but did not find her.

The following day, on Saturday, 09 April, they continued the search and started calling other relatives in Thabong. Unfortunately, the relatives had not heard from her as well. Even close relatives in Botshabelo did not know her whereabouts.

Captain Thakeng stated that the preliminary investigation revealed that witnesses last saw Maphello at Boitumelo Mall Junction with some friends.

“Her friends said she left them at around 16:00,” further revealed Thakeng.

The missing Maphello is light in complexion, well built, 1,6m tall, has short hair and speaks Sesotho. She was last seen wearing blue traditional skirt with doek, a red turtle-neck top, a black leather jacket with black shoes.

“Anyone with information regarding Maphello Shai’s whereabouts should contact detective constable Sello Matene from Thabong Detective Services on 0714118367. Alternatively, one may use the police emergency number, 0860010111,” concluded Thakeng.
