Six suspects are set to appear before Sasolburg Magistrate Court on Monday, July 11, after their mission to hijack truck failed.
Police spokesperson, sergeant Josephine Rani said that, the incident took place yesterday afternoon, July 7, when police officers who were on duty received a tip-off from intelligence team about truck that is being hijacked in R59 road towards R57 off-ramp.
“Upon arrival, they found the truck driver being accompanied by the officials from Department of Traffic.
“Four suspects aged between 18 to 40 who were not successful in their mission had already fled on foot,” said Rani.
Extensive search by official began and one suspect was found in the small dam hiding. The other three suspects were found hiding in the bushes.
These suspects were therefore arrested.
More investigations were done and it was revealed that there are six suspects in total.
The two remaining suspects of which were a woman and a male were found driving a silver Mercedes Benz near shopping complex in Vaal Park.
The suspects are facing charges of hijacking and illegal immigration.
Provincial commissioner, general Baile Motswenyane praised hard work done by the team to arrest these suspects.
“Hijackings have been pain to this district. It is high time we show these suspects that they cannot do as they please. We are surely stamping the authority of the state,” concluded General Motswenyane.
