Police have made arrests of two foreign men after being found with ARVs meant for a clinic on Friday, 06 August 2021 in Welkom.
The arrest occurred as a result of a tip-off to Colonel Didi Ramoolla about human body parts to be transported.
The operation was set thereafter with the help of Crime Intelligence and Welkom K9 Unit.
Using the information received, the two men were identified near Standard Bank in the Welkom CBD. They were carrying boxes and were approached and cornered.
A request was then made to search the boxes and stashes of ARV tablets were found inside.
These ARV tablets were supposed to be delivered to the Phomolong Clinic in Henneman.
SAPS Spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng
The two suspects could not produce documentation to be in possession of these tablets.
The two brothers, aged 27 and 30, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen ARV tablets.
According to Captain Thakeng, the local authorities are currently putting puzzles together to ensure all the guilty parties are brought to justice.
The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Major General Lerato Molale, thanked Welkom residents for trusting in the police.
He also thanked members of CI and Welkom K9 Unit for their quick response, arrests and seizures.
