Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni, father of disgraced celebrity doctor Dr Nandipha Magudumana, is a free man after murder charge has been dropped.
Sekeleni was granted R10 000 bail when he made his appearance before the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court today, April 17.
The 65-year-old initially faced charges of murder, assisting a convicted individual to escape from custody, fraud, and harbouring an escaped convict, Thabo Bester.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phaladi Supeng said the state decided to withdraw the the charge of murder against Sekeleni.
Thabo Bester’s “customary wife”, Magudamane was alongside her father in the dock with her face revealed to the public in court today following the court ruling after the state prosecutor requested the accused to reveal her facial appearance.
Dr Magudumana, her father, a former G4S prison warden Senohe Matsoara and former CCTV technician Teboho Lipholo were nabbed for their role in aiding Bester escape from police custody in May last year.
State prosecutor Sello Matlhoko, said the state was opposed to bail for Magudumana, and other two accused, and asked that the three be remanded in custody until May 3 when they will be applying for bail.
Dr Magudumana’s father will report to court on the May 16. Until then , he is not allowed to stay in contact with any of the witnesses.
