Jean Pierre Andre Jonker (33) appeared before Bethlehem Commercial Crime Court facing fraud charges, on Tuesday, 07 December.
His conviction follows an incident that occurred in 2019 where Jonker’s victim bought a tractor and paid R250 000 deposit.
After the victim finished settling the amount, the bank repossed the tractor.
It was discovered that when Jonker sold the tractor, it was still under finance from the bank. As a result, Jonker prejudiced the victim and led it to a total loss of R250 000.
The victim reported the matter to Bethlehem Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.
Jonker appeared in court on several occasion culminating his recent conviction. The court further summoned him to appear on Tuesday, 02 February 2021.
They sentenced the accused to five years imprisonment, only to be fully suspended on condition that he repay the victim R250 000 before the end of the day.
