Theft of electrical cable thwart operations at Bongani Hospital, patients in limbo!

Despite intense presence of security at Bongani Hospital, thugs have found an aperture, as they barged into the facility of the hospital and made away with electrical cables.

Revealing the news to Kasi Voice News, Free State department of health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi, confirmed that Eskom cable that supplies electricity to Bongani Regional Hospital was stolen on Monday, during the night.

 Mvambi, said the Free State MEC for health, Montseng Tsiu has expressed with disappointment following the act of vandalism at the hospital.

“The MEC is distraught following this act of vandalism which threatens human lives who are in need of life support and health emergency services,” said Mvambi.

While, the lives of patients are at risk, Mvambi says the hospital has been operating with generators from 21:00 on the evening of Monday to date to prevent any further detriments.

He also added that, “Theatre team from Bongani Hospital have been designated to evaluate available Theatres in the District and around the province as a backup to be used during dire emergency cases whilst the cable is restored for electricity supply.”

Mvambi alluded that, infrastructure services are attending to the ailing matter.

“Hopefully they will restore the cable and bring back services to normality in the shortest possible time. They will be giving updates which the public will be made aware of,” he said.

The police are currently probing the case of theft.
