One suspect (53) arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. His accomplice is at large after being found with sheep crammed in a minibus in Cornelia.
On Thursday, 04 November 2021, police patrolled R103. 10 kilometers from Cornelia to Villiers, they noticed a suspicious Toyota Quantum parked near Pocklington farm in Cornelia. Upon police’s approach to the vehicle, one suspect jumped out and fled on foot after noticing the police.
SAPS members then interviewed the driver and noticed a number of sheep loaded in the taxi. The driver could not provide documentation on ownership of the sheep.
They arrested him for possession of suspected stolen property.
Police confiscated a total of 26 sheep crammed in the minibus as well as the minibus.

On further investigation, police located the sheep’s owner and he positively identified them as his property.
A case of stock theft is underway, and will be coupled with possession of suspected stolen property case.
The 53 year old suspect will appear before Vrede Magistrate court on Friday, 05 November 2021.
