The on-going court case against two women implicated in the R1 million fraud at the Free State department of Justice has been postponed to August.
The suspects, Thembisile Enie Ntshengila (38) and Zamambo Thulisule Mkhize (35) appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court this morning where they faced charges of fraud, theft, forgery and uttering.
Magistrate Court heard how the duo defrauded the Justice and Constitutional department during their spell as administration clerks at the Warden Magistrates’ Court.
They were granted R4 000 bail each, while their case has been remanded to August 11.
According to Free State Hawks spokesperson captain Christopher Singo, the two suspects were arrested by the Hawks’ investigation team based in Bloemfontein, yesterday.
“The suspects were entrusted to receive and bank the money for the department,” said Singo.
“They then used some of the money that they were supposed to bank for their own benefit, the incident took place between the period of 2018 and 2020.
“A case docket was registered and handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for further investigation, which culminated to the arrest of the duo yesterday,” addressed Singo.
It is alleged that due to this fraudulent activities, the Justice department was prejudiced and suffered a total loss of more than R1 million.
