QwaQwa educator fired from school for having ‘sexual relationship’ with learner

The Free State department of education has confirmed that a teacher from Dinare Secondary School in QwaQwa, has been fired after being found of having a sexual relationship with school pupil.

Moshe Mofokeng pleaded not guilty to charges of having a sexual relationship with the 22-year-old school pupil.

In the attempt to gather more information pertaining the surrounding of this shocking revelation, Kasi Voice News, reached out to Dinare Secondary School principal Molingoana Zacharia who unpacked the precedents of this case.

“As the school we are under the obligation of complying with the basic education’s code of conduct that condemns any sexual activities or relationship between educators and school children.

“By adhering to this, Mr Mofokeng [The educator] was called to a disciplinary hearing spearheaded by the Education Labour Relations Council, where a decision to dismiss the educator was taken,” revealed the school principal.

According to the proceedings of this council, it was discovered that Mofokeng used to sexually harass the scjhool learner at the school premises.

Moreover, the council fuirther revealed that Mofokeng will lobby the school learner to his home.

With deep grieving concern, the young woman and her parents reported the matter in writing to the principal of Dinare Secondary School in QwaQwa.

Although Mofokeng tried to defend himself countless times, the school pupil confirmed to the council that the charges levelled against Mofokeng, who taught tourism and Sesotho, were true.

“The learner referred to photographic pictures known as ‘selfies’ and stated that it is her and the employee appearing in the pictures.

The council, decided to give a verdict in which was to relief Mofokeng from his duties with immediate effect.

According to the ELRC commissioner, David Pietersen, he found that the teacher had abused his position as the techer to victimise the learner.

“Despite the age of the learner, the employee had a legal duty to protect the interest of the employer and society by maintaining a professional teacher/ learner relationship with the learner.

This, he failed to do. The employee’s conduct was weak and disgraceful,” Pietersen addressed.
