Mangaung residents finally receives title deeds after years of deprivations, hardships

Days of struggles, hardships and enduring the effects of living in destitution conditions, will now be a thing of the past for the community of Mangaung.

This comes after, residents were graced with ‘long-awaited’ title deeds they have been longing for years with no extensive support from the government.

Deputy Minister for Human Settlements Pamela Tshwete handed-over title deeds to the communities of Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State, accompanied by MEC for Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements (CoGTA) Mxolisi Dukwana and Deputy Executive Mayor of Mangaung councillor Mapaseka Nkoane.

Tshwete said this handover ceremony forms part of the execution of outstanding issues, raised post-Presidential Imbizo last month.

Title deeds were awarded to the old pensioners, military veterans, and community members in a full packed, Heidedal Community Hall.

The issuing of title deeds and land ownership is a logjam for the entire Free State province at large.

The backlog of over 60 000 title deeds are yet to be issued to residents by the Free State Department of Human Settlements.

In January this year, the backlog of outstanding title deeds was under review by the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements.

During the sitting of the Committee, it was discovered that many residents of allocated houses, did not have land ownership documents in their possession.

This was due to the government’s failure to fast track registration of title deeds in the province.

Meanwhile, Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, asserted that, the department will have to re-allocate some of the money for unfinished projects in Mangaung to reserve new houses for the community in need.
