Man shot dead outside tavern, girlfriend wounded in suspected hit

Residents of Angelo squatter camp in Boksburg, Gauteng Province were left reeling in shock after a man was brutally gunned down in the early hours of Saturday morning outside a local tavern. The shooting, which occurred around 03:30am, has reignited concerns over spiraling crime and illegal firearms in the area.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was reportedly leaving Goodluck Tavern when he was followed by an unknown suspect. Moments later, the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire, witnesses say up to ten shots rang out. The man died at the scene, while his girlfriend sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Community members allege the victim was not a resident of Angelo. “He was from Katlehong,” said one source who asked not to be named. “There’s talk that he may have been a police officer, but we don’t know where he was stationed. What we do know is that crime is out of control here. We’re not safe, and criminals are walking around with guns like it’s nothing.”

The deceased’s vehicle was later found abandoned near the Angelo sports ground, raising further questions about the motive behind the attack.

Boksburg police captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed that a murder case has been opened. “The deceased was discovered at the scene and investigations are currently underway,” he said.

No arrests have been made yet, and police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that might assist the investigation.
