Botshabelo has been rocked by numerous cases of violence. Recently, a well-known community representative, Sello Moroane, was gunned down in front of his family early Saturday morning.
The brazen attack has led to the arrest of two suspects, but as the hunt continues, two more individuals remain at large, heightening the community’s fear and outrage.
Police spokesperson Sinah Mpakane confirmed that police received a report of the shooting in the early hours of Saturday in the U section of Botshabelo.
Upon arrival, the police found the body of the well-known community leader, lying in a pool of blood with six gunshot wounds on his stomach and hands.
“The victim was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. It was a very serious situation,” sergeant Mpakane said.
Moroane’s wife recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the shooting. “We were sleeping when suddenly the door was kicked open. Four men stormed into the house and started shooting at my husband before running away,” she explained. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
The police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident, while the other two suspects are still at large.
The victim was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Two suspectss, aged 24 and 43, are facing attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting of a prominent community leader in Botshabelo.
The case is set to be heard in the Botshabelo Magistrate Court in the coming days.
