In light of the horrific and traumatic incident that ensued in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, where eight women were gang-raped and robbed of their belongings along with other production crew, EFF leader Julius Malema says government has failed to deal with lawlessness impeccably.
Malema made the remarks at the party’s anniversary celebration at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, where the opposition cabal, is commemorating its ninth year since its establishment in 2014.
The red beret’s Commander-in-Chief condemned the gang-rape related matter and said, the country doesn’t have the police minister nor the police commissioner – making reference to minister Bheki Cele and police commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Malema said the country is hopeless and in futile position under minister Cele.
“Criminals have taken over the streets, we don’t have minister of police, we don’t have commissioner of police,” addressed Malema.
He further lashed out at the police, stating that the police work hand in hand with criminals to commit criminal elements.
Malema said several cases of rape incidents are reported but the police turn a blind eye to arrest the culprits.
“Let us confront criminals, let’s make sure police stations that do not attend to rape are exposed,” Malema told thousands of attendees at the stadium.
He also added that the EFF does not condone acts of lawlessness, despite their call for African foreign nationals to be in the country.
Malema alluded that the law must take action against Zimbabweans, Mozambicans, Malawians and Lesotho nationals who were busted in Krugersdorp.
“Those thugs that raped eight women, they must know they didn’t just commit rape, they killed those women, because when you rape you kill something in that person. They are not just rapists, they are murderers and we don’t want to see them in our streets,” he said.
Women aged between 19 and 37 were raped by foreign nations.
The police have thus made more than 16 arrests, bringing the total number of culprits to 83.
According to an internal police report, the group was filming at an old, unused mine when a group of 10 suspects – who wore blankets, balaclavas, and mining overalls – approached them.
