Livestock theft perpetrators to appear in court soon

Over 36 sheep were reported stolen at a farm in the Tierpoort district, two men are due in court for their alleged role in livestock theft.

Following the report of the theft on November 24, SAPS member from Bloemfontein and the Provincial Stock Theft Unit followed up on the location where the sheep were dropped off.

According to Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli the team responded quickly and caught three suspects off guard while they were offloading the stock the day it was reported stolen.

Two people were arrested, and one fled the scene.

The value of the stolen sheep is estimated to be R108 000, 30 stolen sheep have been recovered, of which seven have been slaughtered and six are still alive.

Police are continuing with their investigation, and more arrests are expected.

In light of recent incidents, the police are urging farmers to keep an eye on their livestock and increase security around camps, as the suspects operate primarily between 20:00 and 05:00.

Residents are also advised to contact their nearest police station if they observe a suspicious vehicle in their vicinity.

A Tierpoort Magistrate Court appearance is imminent for two livestock suspects who are both 40-years-old.
