Lejweleputswa’s junior management SAPS empowers young men, women through dialogue

In an effort to empower young men to play their part in ending the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV), Lejweleputswa district junior management core (JMC) held a GBV dialogue at the Deo Doxa Church Hall in Welkom yesterday, June 29.

The dialogue, saw a widespread attendance by Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) Welkom Campus director, Professor Solomon Makola, members of the public, young people, and SAPS officials.

This hybrid session was aimed at creating awareness on acts of violence and crime against women.

It was opened with a sermon and prayer by pastor Mongezi Dada, sergeant Majoala Malindi (JMC plenary coordinator) together with constable Leniko Setshego (Welkom JMC secretary), constable Lebogang Mokati and sergeant Sharon Mokwena.

Sergeant Mosikare, who serves as Bothaville JMC chairperson introduced the guests and civil organisations such as, Men for Change and PRO of Men for Change district.

In attendance also, Women’s Network showed up at the session, presented by the deputy chairperson Mme Dinono Khotle and spiritual crime prevention district secretary pastor Mongezi Dada.

The dialogue unpacked, touched on the the importance of adhering to the government’s National Development Plan 2030 vision to eradicate crime against women and children.

Prof. Makola (CUT Campus Director) delivered a motivational talk encouraging members to talk about their emotions, embark on a journey for self-discovery as well as to engage in different dialogues to close the gap in gender parties.

He also mentioned that in order to overcome this pandemic of GBVF, young people and junior leaders are supposed to hold the spear in the fight and be active and supportive.
