Hawks, SAPS swoop on duo for tampering Transnet pipelines, theft of fuel

The Free State Hawks and the Bethlehem police unit’s Tactical Response Team, initiated arrest of two suspects for tampering with transnet pipelines and stealing fuel in Vrede.

The alleged suspects between the ages of 28 and 36 were arrested on Monday, June 13.

Unpacking the effect of the arrest, Hawks spokesperson in the province, Christopher Singo detailed that, the arrest originates from an incident that took place on Monday, after two security officials became concerned over a suspicious car.

“While they were busy patrolling, they saw a white bakkie near Block Valve 59. When the suspects saw the security officials, they then drove away.

“The security officials then discovered that the block valve was opened with wooden blocks and petrol was dripping. They also found one unknown African male who was later certified dead by members of the emergency services,” Singo revealed.

The suspects will appear in court soon where they will face charges of tampering with Transnet pipelines and theft of fuel.
