The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) in the Free State has arrested six men suspected of being involved in a ‘failed’ cash-in-transit heist in Bethlehem.
Six suspects between the age of 28 and 47 were arrested on Tuesday, 03 May by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team based in Bethlehem together with Public Order Policing (POP) in Bethlehem and Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Phuthaditjhaba, the directorate’s Free State spokesperson Christopher Singo told Kasi Voice News.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, 03 May at about 10:45 am, two EFS Security Officials were delivering the money at the Post Office in Paul Roux.
“One of the Security Official went out of the car with a bag containing the undisclosed amount of money,” Singo revealed.
“The driver who was inside the car saw a number of suspects who then started to shoot at the security vehicle,” he added,.
“The driver tried to drive away but crashed into another vehicle which was blocking the way.
The Security Officer who was out of the vehicle with the money managed to get inside the vehicle,” detailed Singo.
He escaped the scene and drove to Paul Roux Police Station for assistance,” Singo further addressed.
Singo said an intelligence driven Operation was conducted by the Police, where they gathered a lead to trace these suspects, who were arrested.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrates Court tomorrow, 06 May.
