A 48-year-old African male is set to appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court on next week Monday, July 4, for charges of being in possession of gold bearing material and illegal immigration.
According to Lejweleputswa spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the crime intelligence unit received a tip-off about an African male who had gold bearing material.
“The information was operationalized by Knock Out Team on the 30 June and a house in Hani Park Bronville was identified and approached,” said Thakeng.
Thakeng further said that, the officials were granted to search the house and to their surprise they recovered certain materials.
“The following material were found and seized: 54kg oxygen cylinder with regulator, 9kg gas cylinder with regulator, complete ser of cutting torch, 2 home-made stoves, 6 halves used crucible pots and unused 3 borax plastic bags and a bearing material is estimated to be valued R13 000,” added Thakeng.
Thakeng concluded that, the man was arrested and he had no documentations that permitted him to be in the country.
