Firearm and drugs seized after police chase, two arrested and driver on the run

Bothaville SAPS officers were in-full swing of investigation when they noticed a suspicious vehicle, police gave chase and a firearm and drugs were seized. Driver jumped from the car and fled from the scene.

In a issued statement, it is alleged that on Thursday around afternoon, the police detected an apprehensive Nissan Almera and instantly asked for back up, Sergeant Ramathibe responded and they vehicle was chased and kept on speeding even SAPS members gave indication to stop.

“The chase continued until it stopped at house number 848 Lekitlane street Kgotsong and could not park properly as it bumped on a stationery bakkie.

The driver jumped from the Almera and fled from the scene.

There were two passengers found inside the vehicle and permission was asked to search the vehicle. Sergeant Kodisang Ramathibe began to search and one Lorcin, Bharti Brothers 9mm firearm was found inside the boot hidden inside a black plastic.

Two small transparent plastics were found with suspected Chrystal Meth drugs hidden inside the sunglasses case,” a statement read.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the firearm belongs to the father of the driver who is at the hospital,” statement detailed.

The two suspects aged 38 and 17 years old were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and suspected drugs. The minor was released to his parents.

The driver is still on the run and the two suspects will appear in Bothaville Magistrate Court, on Monday, 16 August 2021.
