Father and son arrested with copper cabbles in transit

Two Fezile Dabi District police officers from Kroonstad Highway Patrol arrested two male suspects for possession of suspected stolen copper in the early hours of Thursday, 03 March.

The two officers were on duty, patrolling the N1 highway in Kroonstad when then noticed a suspicious grey BMW. They signalled it to stop and the driver complied.

Sergeant Reuben Ntlokotsi and and constable Itumeleng Mosia approached the vehicle and found two occupants claiming to be father and son. Officers requested to search the car’s boot and received permission.

In the boot, they found a black refuse bag containing empty cooldrink cans placed in front obscuring other loaded items. Upon further searching, officers found 10 kg bags containing copper cables.

Due to finding suspected stolen copper in the car, duo police officers arrested the pair aged 36 and 56 claiming to be father and son.

The suspected stolen copper is believed to be property of Transnet. Confiscated copper weighed 164 kg with an estimated value of R19 000. The police also seized the BMW driven by the suspects for its usage in the commission of crime.

The two suspects will face possession of suspected stolen property and will soon appear before Kroonstad Magistrate Court.
