A Welkom farmer who is still trying to make end meets for his family has been hit by a gruesome attack.
An elderly cattleman from Welkom has been left devastated after five of his Bonsmara cows were slaughtered, while a sixth cow was found with its left leg amputated, although it was still alive.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, September 20, the Bonsmara live stock was kept safe in the kraal at Theron farm, district of Welkom.
In a blink of an eye, the 56-year-old owner of the live stock woke to an alarming call, when his shepherd tipped him off that cows were stolen.
The Welkom SAPS were informed following this shocking discovery and on their arrival, they found lifeless livestock in dismemberment.
“The kraal was broken to gain entrance to force the cows out. The tracks of a vehicle were noticed at the crime scene,” says police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng.
The police says a case of stock theft was registered and escalated to the relevant detective officer for further investigations in a bid to find culprits.
Police plead with communities who might have tangible information or know the whereabouts of the alleged unknown suspects to contact detective sergeant Pitso Selekoe of Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit on 082-3885-113.
