Former security officer slapped with 6-year prison sentence for stealing 17 cows!

An ex-employee for Basopa Security, who stole 17 cattle belonging to a Deneysville farmer has been handed a six-year prison sentence.

The accused, Constantia Mogane Mosehla,28, was found guilty for stock theft by the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 17.

In August 2020, the concerned farmer discovered that theft has occurred in his farm where 17 of his branded cattle were stolen.

He instantly reported the matter to the Heilbron police’s stock theft and endangered species unit.

“The members (police officers) resumed investigation on the same day. All possible leads were followed and all the stock was found on another farm,” Fezile Dabi regional police spokesperson Malebo Khosana explained.

“At the time of recovery, all the stock was re-branded and ready to be sold. The stock was identified by the rightful owner and it was confiscated and handed to him,” said captain Khosana.

“As investigation progressed it was revealed that the security guard has planned and arranged this theft.

He was arrested on Thursday, 13 August 2020, appeared on Monday, 17 August 2020 where he was released on a R3000,” further detailed Khosana.
