Drug trafficker busted with dagga plants in Ashbury

A 36-year-old African male has been arrested, after he was found in possession of drugs, the Bloemfontein police say.

The man was arrested today, by members of Visible Policing Unit and Support personnel of Heidedal Police Station.

Members of the unit and support personnel of the police station were conducting crime prevention operation that was aimed on identifying drug post.

“During the patrols the support commander captain Masolane and sergeant Mokgothing (FLASH) spotted a vehicle driving away from the target address in Ashbury and stopped it at about 12:00,” explains Mangaung police spokesperson Thabo Covane.

“They approached the vehicle and asked for permission from the driver to search the vehicle which he granted.

“Two (2) big bankies and thirty-one (31) small ones containing dried leaves of dagga plants were found hidden in the vehicle,” he adds.

It is alleged that the 36-year-old African male then offered the police one-hundred-rands (R100.00) as bribery so that he can be released.

“The suspect was arrested for possession and dealing with drugs as well as corruption,” reveals Covane.

The case was opened against the suspect in Heidedal police station and the suspect is set to remain on custody.

The suspect is set to appear before Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 30 March.
