Cops investigates culpable homicide after driver dies in Odendaalsrus truck collision

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after two trucks collided and caught fire in the R34 road, Odendaalsrus, leaving a truck driver dead on Thursday, 18 February.

“These were travelling in the same direction towards Kroonstad when they collide and caught fire, the driver of another truck was rescued and taken to the hospital were he passed on,” said police spokesperson in Lejweleputswa Stephen Thakeng.

Thakeng said, the truck driver who was in front he was hit by another truck that was following him.

“Then he lost control and swerved beside the road next to Harmonia farm in the district of Odendaalsrus in R34 road,” Thakeng said.

“The truck at the back caught fire and the driver was trapped inside. But he was rescued by a good Samaritan.

The fire escalated to the truck that was in front and parked beside the road, but the driver managed to alight and flee for his life,” he further explained.

It is alleged that the driver of the truck that was at back was transported to Medi Clinic hospital in Welkom where he passed on.

Thakeng said a case of culpable homicide is investigated and a probe to the matter is handled by Detective Warrant Officer Teboho Makole of Odendaalsrus Detective Services.
