Bloemfontein businessman has been found guilty of tax fraud amounting to about R3-million.
Tiedie David Miya, 48, and his company Acetofon (Pty) Ltd were convicted for contravening the Tax Administration Act in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Friday, August 12.
Miya was found to have been involved in tax evasion, where he supplied South African Revenue Service (SARS) with fraudulent tax returns between 2014 and 2018.
“A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Service uncovered Miya and his company’s fraudulent activities that cost the SARS in excess of more than R3 million,” further detailed Free State Hawks spokesperson captain Christopher Singo.
Singo said the Hawks effected the arrest of Miya last month, July 30 and he appeared in court on numerous occasions culminating in his recent conviction.
When he appeared in court on Friday, he was remanded in custody.
He will return to court next month in September for sentencing.
