Japhet Khumalo (41) appeared before Sasolburg Magistrates Court facing theft charges on Friday, 08 October 2021.
Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Johannesburg apprehended Khumalo on theft of cash allegations at Valkfontein, Lenasia South.
Khumalo’s arrest came from his employer, Fidelity Security Services’ report to the Hawks.
The security agency had suspicions regarding alleged missing R200 000 cash. They reported the matter to Hawks in Johannesburg.
The investigation team swiftly traced Khumalo and arrested him in Vlakfontein, Lenasia South.
Further investigation led the police to another address in that vicinity. A bag with suspected stolen cash inside a wardrobe was discovered at the identified address.
After his court appearance on Tuesday, 12 October 2021, Khumalo will be kept in custody pending investigation.
The case was postponed to Monday, 18 October 2021 for a formal bail application. The matter was referred to the Sasolburg police detectives for further investigation.
