Welkom K9 unit bust three for armed robbery, kidnapping

Welkom police have arrested three men, who reportedly assaulted foreign business owner and his brother at gun point in the industrial area, Welkom.

The drama began on Wednesday, 18 May, during midday when a 46-year-old business owner and his sibling were allegedly approached by three African men, vigorously demanding money and threatening to kill the victims at their business premises.

The alleged thugs, said they received R10 000 from another foreign national businessman, and they were told that there’s money at the store also.

The victims then told the armed robbers they do not have money.

The police were then informed and the three suspects were arrested following an immense operational intervention.

“An operation was coordinated and three suspects aged between 25 to 40 years were arrested with the sedan they used to commit this crime by members of Welkom K9 Unit,” the police revealed.

According to the Welkom police, there has been several cases of kidnappings in Matjhabeng, and the alleged robbers are believed to be behind cases of kidnappings.

They were apprehended on counts of armed robbery and attempted kidnappings.

The trio will make a brief appearance in the Welkom Magistrate Court tomorrow, 23 May.
