Three suspects were arrested with a stolen sheep in their vehicle, when the police intensified a lead operation in Welkom on Tuesday, 21 December.
The purpose of the operation was to prevent stock theft and prevent farm attacks.
“During the stop and search conducted a silver Toyota Tazz with Free State number plate was stopped and permission was requested to search the vehicle. Inside the boot, a sheep carcus was found, the three occupants could not provide the Police Officers with proper documents to be in possession of the sheep,” said Welkom SAPS spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.

“The three suspects aged 30, 33 and a female 55-years-old were arrested for possession of suspected stolen live stock,” he further revealed.
“Members involved in the arrest and seizure were sergeant Motsilisi Mochudi and warrant officer Janki Moreki Rual Safety Coordinator .
The district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, major general Lerato Molale applauded these two members for excellent work together with farmers.
“We continue to stamp the authority of the state during this Festive Season,” said Molale.
