At first, the trial was set to proceed in 11 April, but Zandile Mshololo who is the legal counsel for one of the co-accused, Sifiso Nkani Ntul, asked for extension to consult with the client.

Ntuli’s lawyer had wanted more time to consult with him and witnesses in the case.

While the other accused in the trial – Muzikawukhulelwa S’tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube and Ziphozonke Mthokoziseni Maphisa are all represented by the same lawyer.

“We understand that justice delayed is justice denied. As the NPA we are doing everything in our power to ensure that this matter is finalised. We too hope that there will be no further postponements,” said NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.

“We understand the frustrations of the family and their need for closure, which can only be achieved when justice is served,” added Mahanjana.
