SA Civil Aviation Authority introduces aviation to 500 learners in Phuthaditjhaba

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) took its career outreach programme up a notch last month, when members visited Phuthaditjhaba township.

The organisation’s External Communication Specialist, Tshepo Mokono said a visit to this rural school was unique in that it introduced the aviation industry to the African pupils from various schools.

Mokono, says the SACCA landed in the township of Phuthaditjhaba to expose youngsters to the world of aviation in particular careers within the sector.

“Learners learned a lot about careers in aviation sector such as Aircraft Mechanic Engineer, Pilot, Aeronautical Engineer, Aviation Medicine and Air Traffic Controller,” says Mokono.

“Role models from Pilots to Air Traffic Controllers to Aircraft Maintenance Engineers to Cabin Crew to weather services experts equipped learners with information and further motivated them that the sky is indeed the limit and every thing is possible in the world of aviation,” added Mokono.

Aviators from different companies including flight schools, South African Weather Services, Transport and Education Training Authority (TETA), Department of Transport, SACAA, Department of Education had tables where they exchanged information with the learners and also provided answers to questions asked by those learners.
