While leading the Letsema Campaign in Welkom, Free State on Saturday, October 8, President Cyril Ramaphosa in his capacity as the party’s President, reaffirmed that the ruling party is gaining greater momentum in the province despite its flaws.
The launch of the ANC Letsema campaign had a smooth run in Matjhabeng, where the President was accompanied by the Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela, distinguished MECs, and Matjhabeng municipal mayor Thanduxolo Khalipa.
“At the provincial, regional and branch levels, the ANC is coming alive as this province at the past was hugely a challenge, we can see that the Letsema programme is really coming onto its own, and people are focused on strengthening the branches of the ANC, and making sure they are not only ready for the upcoming conference in the province but to serve the people,” said Ramaphosa.
Letsema Campaign is aimed at placing structures of the ANC at the forefront of resolving community challenges and service delivery.
Ramaphosa also added that, since the ANC in Free State is gearing up for its conference towards end of October, the party is walking on its renewal programme to invigorate its branches.
“The province should be going to a conference soon, and through that we will be able to lift the revival the branches of the ANC, so this is is an important programme for me, because is part of the renewal project we are involved in the ANC to reinvigorate the ANC and that our people connect with the ANC,” said Ramaphosa.
The party in the province has been marred with squabbles that ended up in the court battles, where disgruntled members of the party were accusing the Internal Provincial Committee (IPC) of not cooperating with branches.
The IPC has been accused of failing to rebuild the organisation.
However, Ramaphosa through his engagements with the the ANC structures he said branches should hold hands and be one unit to better the people of the Free State province.
While assessing the state of townships in the embattled city of Welkom, Ramaphosa has promised to address service delivery issues raised by residents.
Ramaphosa said the party is committed to dealing with the root cause of the rot in the ANC.
“We are going to make sure we clean up our municipalities, the premier is committed, the mayor is committed and at national government level, we are committed. We want to ensure that there is proper service delivery,” he addressed.
