The Virginia Social Crime Prevention and Welkom K9 Unit carried out a search operation at Virginia High School on Wednesday morning, August 23rd.
The operation comes after the realisation of how schools have become breeding grounds for violence among learners. In some cases, the violence is between learners and teachers, as well as gangs and schools. Sadly, some of these incidents lead to death.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, such operations will be conducted randomly, without the learners’ knowledge.
“After searching about 200 learners, the police found and seized packets of dagga, knives, cigarettes, and scissors used for crating dagga,” added Thakeng.

Thakeng said the education department and the police made school safety their priority, hence the conduction of such operations.
The police issued a stern warning against learners who carry weapons and drugs to school, as they will arrest them.
