At least 2147 people were apprehended by various police stations across the Lejweleputswa District for violating Covid-19 regulations.
Men and Women in blue within the Lejweleputswa District Police Stations are working tirelessly to help curb the spread of the virus by arresting those violating the Covid 19 regulations. 2147 people were arrested
According to an issued statment, from the 1st until 31 of July 2021, local authorities made these arrests for non-compliance to Covid 19 pandemic regulations as tabled down by National Command Council.
A number of 1245 people were arrested for failure to be confined to a place of residence (Curfew) from 21:00 to 04:00 during Alert Level 4.
A furthermore, total number of 392 were arrested for failure to comply with verbal instruction of law enforcement officer to wear a mask in a public area and 352 people were arrested for consumption of liquor in a public space other than a licensed on-site consumption premises.
The Police Stations with quite a number of these violations and arrests effected are Thabong with 387, Welkom with 369, Odendaalsrus with 258 followed by Dealesville with 152 and Virginia with 133.
“This sharp increase in arrests distressingly displays that some communities within Lejweleputswa District are not complying with Alert Level 3 Covid 19 pandemic regulations in an effort by Government to curb the spread of the virus,” a statement read.
Lejweleputswa District Commissioner, Major General Lerato Molale appeals to residents to adhere to Alert Level 3 Regulations and the President’s call to help fight the spread of the virus.
“These regulations are meant to save lives, let us help curb the spread. However, men and women in blue within the District will continue enforcing these Regulations on those who do not adhere,” Major General Molale said.
