Matjhabeng municipality, Goldfields TVET College join hands to place 50 unemployed youth under learnership programme

About 50 unemployed young people in the vicinity of Matjhabeng have embarked on their enrollment of a twelve months learnership programme to develop their skills and to gather work experience.

This learnership programme was made possible by the solid partnership between Matjhabeng Local Municipality and the Goldfields TVET College, after both parties penned down a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to priorities the unemployed youth.

Selected learners were recruited from various cities within Matjhabeng municipality through the recruitment processes.

The contracted individuals will go through a theoretical and practical training at the Matjhabeng offices.

According to the municipality mayor, Thanduxolo Khalipa, these learners will be placed under the finance department as the embattled municipality is on verge of repositioning its overwhelmed finance unit.

“The selected students from Goldfields TVET College will work with Matjhabeng’s bill account officials in order to enhance the municipality’s billing system, as we avoid to encounter setbacks,” said Khalipa.

“Youth employment is our priority, we are on verge of restructuring our economy by creating jobs for youth,” Khalipa addressed.

Khalipa said the gesture is aimed at encouraging more young people to consider finance related courses, as they have wide range of opportunities.

Speaking to a full house attended by 50 young people, Khalipa reiterated that, with Matjhabeng having felt the brunch of financial loss past years, the municipality is now working on measures to tackle the impediments as it’s now heading for economic reform.

The students will be compensated a stipend of R3 800 on monthly basis, and according to the municipality and the college, the learnership programme will enable learners to work towards a national recognised qualification (National Diploma).
