Man appears in court for fabricating car hijacking story

A 47-year-old man appears before a court facing defeating the ends of justice charge after fabricating car hijacking story on Wednesday, 06 October 2021.

This follows a case of car hijacking that the suspect opened in Viljoensdrif SAPS on Monday, 04 October 2021. He claimed he was hijacked the previous day, Sunday.

In his story, he alleged his white Ford Ranger was hijacked by two unknown men he picked up hitchhiking on P10 Road. The 47-year-old further alleged he was headed to Deneysville at around 19:50.

According to him, while driving on R716, on of the men, sitting in front, took out a pistol, cocked it and ordered him to turn the vehicle around which he did.

He also claimed they drove with him past Vereeniging to Villiers, where he was eventually dumped on the N3.

A case of hijacking was opened at Viljoensdrif SAPS on Monday, 04 October 2021.

After thorough interrogation by members of Zamdela Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, it came to light that the suspect opened a false case and that the vehicle was with his friend in Secunda.

A case of defeating the ends of justice was opened against the suspect. He was charged and taken to court on Wednesday 06 October 2021.

The outcome of his appearance will be communicated at a later stage.
